A study released in December 2013 states hydrocodone, and specifically the brand name drug Vicodin, is one of the most popular drugs among Americans who abuse prescription painkillers. Researchers surveyed more than 3,500 prescription painkiller abusers in 160 drug-treatment programs across the United States. They found that 30 percent of participants favored hydrocodone as their drug of abuse.
